Congratulations to all the recipients named in the following list of Senior Academic Awards! As a member of the 48th annual awards selection, you join a long line of students who have distinguished themselves through their performance.

On behalf of Sr. Donna and the entire faculty and staff of St. Thomas Aquinas High School, I want to congratulate these outstanding students.

I am also pleased to note the Class of 2020 is in receipt of $35 million in scholarships.

Valedictorian

Bianca Mikaela Villadolid - The achievement Bianca Mikaela Villadolid is most proud of during her time at St. Thomas Aquinas High School is being awarded the title of Valedictorian of the Class of 2020.  She is also proud of her involvement as Student Council Secretary/Treasurer during the 2019-2020 school year and Student Council Publicity Chairperson during the 2018-2019 school year.  While she was accepted to Northeastern University, Fordham University, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, the University of Dallas, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Christendom College, and Thomas Aquinas College, earning more than $1 million in grants and scholarships over four years, she has committed to Boston College where she will be majoring in Philosophy on a Pre-Med track.

Salutatorian

Maia Lim - Maia Lim will be attending the University of Pittsburgh Honors College next year, majoring in Mathematical Biology and under the 8 year guaranteed admissions dental program. Maia received a total of $437,200 in scholarship awards. During her sophomore, junior, and senior year, Maia had the most service hours in her grade, with an end total of 1,054 hours. Maia was the co-chair of the Cancer Awareness Society and a member of NHS, the CSAC leadership team, jazz and concert band, and the Ahr Star Program board.

Top 10 % of the Class of 2020

Avni Bhavsar - Avni Bhavsar was accepted into Drexel and Rutgers University and has decided to attend the Honors College at Rutgers University with a major in Chemical Engineering. She was granted $226,800 in scholarships. Avni has greatly enjoyed her time at St. Thomas Aquinas, especially as captain of the varsity tennis team, one of her greatest achievements. She is thankful for her time here and looking forward to what is next.

Kathleen Chan - Kathleen Chan will attend Sacred Heart University in the fall with a double major in Marketing and Graphic Design. Additionally, she was accepted at every school to which she applied - Drexel University, Scranton University, Marist College, State University of New York, Pace University, and High Point University - with over $760,000 in scholarships. Her greatest accomplishment at STA is being captain of the Color Guard and leaving the team in good hands - she hopes her teammates continue to receive the love she has seen in the past three years. As a member of six honors societies and a number of extracurriculars, Kathleen would like to thank everyone at STA for giving her so many opportunities to make her high school experience as incredible as it was.

 Kristen Choi - Kristen Choi will attend New York University next year, with a major in Global Public Health/Nutrition and Dietetics. Kristen received a total of $17,500 in scholarship awards. During her senior year, Kristen received the opportunity to travel to Kazan, Russia to participate in the 2019 BWF World Junior Championships for badminton.

Alyssa DeJianne - Alyssa DeJianne will be attending Iona College in the fall, majoring in Biology for the Pre-Physical Therapy Program and playing Division 1 softball. Alyssa received approximately $850,000 in scholarship awards over the four- year span. She was accepted into Iona, Arcadia, Drexel, and WPI. In her Junior year, she earned a seal of biliteracy in Italian. She was also a member of Student Council, Peer Leadership, CSAC, NHS, the Science, Italian, Math, and Social Studies Honor Societies, and played Varsity Softball.

Catheryn Duarte - Catheryn Hope Duarte will be attending Seton Hall University, majoring in Psychology on a pre-med track.  Catheryn is a graduate of the Class of 2020, entering into Bishop George Ahr and leaving St. Thomas Aquinas, and has accomplished many things during her time.  She was in concert choir, Art Club President, was a part of the Marching Trojans’s Color Guard Team, Girls’ Varsity Bowling Team, and was a member of Peer Leadership. She was accepted to Rutgers, Drexel, and Seton Hall. She received over fifty thousand dollars in scholarship awards, and was accepted into Seton Hall’s Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). She was especially proud of her academic achievements throughout high school which includes being part of the honors program, getting into Latin National Honor Society and National Honor Society, and graduating as part of the top 10% of her class.

Joseph Dunn - Joseph will be attending The College of New Jersey next year, with a planned major of finance. Joseph received $152,000 in scholarship awards. Joseph was a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society, the Mathematics Honor Society, the Social Studies Honor Society, and the Science Honor Society. Joseph served on student council for two years as the Ahr Star Chairperson, was an executive board leader for CSAC, and captain of the Varsity Cross Country team his senior year after running all four years.

Anne Hoban - Anne Hoban will be attending the University of Delaware, majoring in chemical engineering. She received a total of $292,000 in scholarships over four years. Anne is very proud to have been named co-dance captain in the drama department and for being recognized in the top 10%. She was a member of the National, Latin, and Science Honor Societies.

Grace Metz - Grace Metz was accepted at the University of Notre Dame, Bucknell University, Wake Forest University, Loyola University Maryland, The College of New Jersey, and Case Western Reserve University with over $480,000 in scholarships. She plans to attend Case Western Reserve University in the fall with a major in Physics. Her proudest achievements at STA include being in the top ten percent of her class and being a Drama Department dance captain during her senior year.

Samantha Miel - In the fall, Samantha Miel will be attending the University of Connecticut in the Honors Program, majoring in chemical engineering. She was accepted into all seven of her schools (University of Connecticut, Drexel University, University of Delaware, Syracuse University, NJIT, Rutgers University, and Northeastern University) and received a total of $386,800 in scholarship awards. Samantha was a member of the National Honor Society, along with the Science, Social Studies, Spanish, and Math Honor Societies, a homeroom representative for three consecutive years, a peer leader, and an active volunteer in her school community. Her proudest accomplishment was playing varsity volleyball for two years, being a team captain her senior year, all while maintaining Principal's List over all four years.

Jason Pinga - Jason Pinga will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology next year, majoring in Computer Science. Jason received a total of $112,000 in scholarship awards over the course of 4 years from the Edwin A. Stevens Scholarship and the Presidential Scholarship from Stevens Institute of Technology. Jason was inducted into the NHS, SNHS, and LHS in his junior year.

Alyssa Pittari - Alyssa Pittari will be attending High Point University in North Carolina in the fall as a Presidential Scholar and a Business Fellow, majoring in Marketing. Alyssa was accepted into six colleges: High Point University, Elon University, The University of Scranton, Fairfield University, Quinnipiac University, and The College of New Jersey, receiving a total of $504,000 in scholarship money. Alyssa is a member of National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, Hispanic Honor Society, Science Honor Society, and Social Studies Honor Society. She was the class Secretary/Treasurer her Junior and Senior year, Fishing Club president, a Peer Leader, and an active member of various other clubs at STA. Alyssa was also a writer for the Satoma newspaper all four years as well as a member of the Insight yearbook staff her Senior Year.

Jessica Prekeris - Jessica Prekeris was accepted to Northeastern University, Drexel University, Saint Joseph's University, Iona College, Rutgers University, Seton Hall University, and The College of New Jersey. From these schools, she was offered a total of $437,600 in scholarships and grants over 4 years. In the fall, Jessica will be attending Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia with a planned major in Biology. Over the years, she enjoyed activities such as Bowling, Marching Band, Art Club, CSAC, and volunteering. She was a member of NHS as well as the Science, Spanish, and Math Honor Societies. During her senior year at STA, Jessica achieved a place among the top 10% of her class.

Anna Rivera - Anna Rivera will be attending Thomas Aquinas College in Santa Paula, California next year, with a major in Liberal Arts. She received a $2,000 academic scholarship from the Association of Retired Hispanic Police, and was in the Class of 2020's Top Ten Percent.  During her junior and senior years, she was very active in the Catholic youth ministry in her local community as a retreat planner and leader. Anna was a member of the Tri-M Honors Society, the Science National Honors Society, and the Latin Honors Society. She was also involved in the Select and Concert Choirs, the Concert and Marching Bands, and the Student Ambassadors program.

Sarah Shanahan - Sarah Shanahan will be attending Fordham University next year, majoring in political science.  Sarah received a total of $396,000 in scholarship awards.  She was the Social Co-Chair of the Student Council Executive Board in her Junior and Senior year, and she planned Snowball and reinstituted the Homecoming Dance.  Sarah was a member of the NHS, Math, Latin, Social Studies, and Science Honors Societies, Drama Department, Ahr Star Board, CSAC, Track Team, Student Ambassadors, Peer Leadership, and Concert and Select Choir.

Samantha Soldo - Samantha Soldo has decided to continue her academic career at the Savannah College of Art and Design and will be majoring in Fashion Marketing and Management on a merit scholarship. Samantha was also accepted at Drexel University, California State University: Long Beach, LIM College, and the Fashion Institute of Technology for intended majors of fashion merchandising. Samantha was heavily involved in student life at St. Thomas Aquinas High School and is recognized for being President of both P.in.k. and Photoshop Club, and also for being an executive board member of the Christian Social Action Club and Ahr Star. During her time at STA, Samantha was able to balance her 4.4 GPA with being a part of four National Honor Societies and achieving Top 10% status in her grade, all while being a Peer Leader, Student Ambassador, and Varsity cheerleader.

Devlin Stein - Devlin Stein will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology next year, majoring in biomedical engineering. Devlin received over $275,000 in scholarships among the four schools that he applied to. Devlin is a part of NHS, as well several other honor societies including the Math, Science, Social Studies, and Italian Honor Societies. He also received a Seal of Biliteracy, indicating his fluency in the language of Italian. Devlin participated in several sports in high school, and received a total of 7 varsity letters from his football and lacrosse careers. In his junior year, Devlin was selected to the All-Division team for football. In his senior year, Devlin's academic talents, combined with his athletic accomplishments, earned him the Bill Denny/Rutgers Football Scholar Athlete Award and the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award, which both earned him additional scholarship money.

Gabriella Toryk - Gabriella Toryk will be attending Stevens Institute of Technology as a member of their Cross Country and Track & Field teams in the fall of 2020. She has been accepted into the Pinnacle Scholars program with a planned double major in Physics and Applied Mathematics with a minor in Astrophysics. Stevens has awarded her the following scholarships: 

Presidential Scholarship $6,500, Edwin A. Stevens Scholarship $25,000, and Martha Bayard Stevens Scholarship $2,000.  During her time at BGA/STA, she has been captain of the varsity Cross Country and Track and Field teams, including the XC division champions in 2019. Academically, she has made the distinguished honors list each school year and is a member of various National Honor Societies including: Science National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, Chinese National Honor Society, Rho Kappa History Honor Society, and the National Honor Society. Gabriella was a commended National Merit Scholar during her senior year.

Frank Wilhelm IV - Frank Wilhelm IV was involved in the Boys’ Cross Country Team, Model United Nations, and Peer Leadership, and was nominated into the National Honors Society. He was accepted into Rutgers Honors College, Lehigh University, Villanova University, Susquehanna University, Seton Hall University, and Boston College. He received a total of $586,800 in scholarship and grant awards. He is excited to be attending Boston College in the fall, majoring in Finance.
